Posted .

Aligning your smile can be a confusing, overwhelming, and nerve-wracking task, which is why it’s normal to have questions. To help you know a little more about orthodontic treatment, our Liang Orthodontics orthodontic team is happy to provide the answers to the following frequently asked questions about orthodontic treatment in Potomac, Maryland:

Question No. 1: When is it recommended to have an orthodontic evaluation?

Answer No. 1: The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that a child should receive an orthodontic evaluation by 7 years old. This is because the teeth and jaws are developed enough for Dr. Christopher Liang to notice signs of misalignment.

Question No. 2: Why is it important to align your teeth at a young age?

Answer No. 2: Research has shown that alignment issues can be corrected more easily at a young age because a child’s jaw and face bones are still growing and are flexible.

Question No. 3: What are the different types of braces?

Answer No. 3: There are many different types of braces you can choose from, including metal braces, clear aligners, ceramic braces, Damon braces, and more. Some of these appliances are more noticeable than the others while some are more expensive or have different treatment times. Feel free to call our office to see which treatment is right for you!

Question No. 4: Will treatment be painful?

Answer No. 4: There will be times when your teeth are sore from the pressure and from moving positions. This is completely normal. It might make chewing a bit difficult at times, but it should only last a few days. To treat the discomfort, you can take over-the-counter painkillers.
